Name: Caffe Art Java
Location: 645 President-Kennedy It's on the corner of University & President-Kennedy right at one of the McGill metro exit which was perfect this winter!
Free WiFi: YES
Atmosphere:
I was in Montreal for only a few months when someone recommended this café. I was happy when I found out it was only 2 minutes from my work! The shop which was established in 2006 is very bright with its floor to ceiling windows at the front and the brick back wall & vivid red benches. Since it is located near the McGill University you see many students studying and working on projects. It can also get crowded with the business crowd because of its location. It does not quite have the atmosphere of a small, quaint coffee shop however it's well worth stopping to taste their coffee & amazingly fresh pastries.
View from the entrance...it's usually crowded i promise... |

I have named this the "reading room" |
What I especially like about this café is the very cozy back room with its leather chairs and fold out trays & many flat screen TV’s (which is usually on a food network). I’ve spent many days sat in those chairs sipping on lattes and reading books. The first time I went to this café I was with my friend Chloe who is now in South Africa. This place will forever remind me of her.
There is something very special about the service the staff provides. In all of my experiences there, the staff seemed to be so relaxed & friendly. No like really relaxed! You are not rushed to take your order and when I asked for recommendations on what snack to choose the employee gladly started going over my choices. Every pastry I tried was fresh, moist & very tasty. My favorite was a caramel crumble type cake (sorry if I’ve butchered the name) which I have had again and again.

Such a beautiful sight!! |
Coffee:
I kept the best for last. Every single cup of latte I had there was smooth & rich. The temperature was also just right. You’ll hear me talking about the temperature a lot since it is crucial to get it right for a deliciously prepared latte or cappuccino. Too cold, well you just drink it because you don’t want to hassle them to warm it up and too hot, the milk turns and taste like baby feet.( Don’t ask me why I am comparing it to baby feet!) They also sell Harney & Sons Fine Teas which I love. They serve it with a kettle and cup of tea. My favorite, the Hot Cinnamon Sunset has a powerful taste of cinnamon, clove & orange.
When I told Victor, the staff member that was working, that I was writing a blog, he gave me names and places of other cafes to visit. He told me about a guy called Jean-Pierre in Montreal who roasts his own coffee. Are you thinking what I am thinking? I will have to find him and talk coffee!! My next coffee commentary will be on a café which is close to home in the Mile-End. Soon to come…
